BAS Board Notice

Dear members, We have received feedback from some members pertaining to the R&R, for the upcoming Youth Cup and Division 1 league. The BAS Board is taking it seriously and will review the R&R thoroughly. We would like to clarify that BAS has yet to sign any agreement with any official apparel that requires all teams to wear any particular brand of jerseys. It was also not in BAS’s interest to impose fine to any teams that do not comply to these terms. The BAS Board seeks your patience in the meantime to allow the Board to convene a meeting to review the R&R in details. The secretariat will update the revised R&R via BAS’s official website as soon as possible. Thank you. Regards Kelvin Tan Sec Gen BAS On behalf of the Board of BAS

Excitement building for FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2024

SINGAPORE – Excitement is already building for the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2024, which is poised to kick off in spectacular style, marking the beginning of an exciting year for the world’s number one urban team sport. For the third straight edition, the vibrant city of Singapore will host the premier 3×3 tournament in Asia from March 27-31, 2024. The games will be played at the Singapore Sports Hub, a venue that has staged numerous renowned sports events, with the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup standing out for its particularly electrifying atmosphere, placing it high among the most memorable experiences. The 2024 edition of the Asia Cup will effectively launch a major year for 3×3, which will be headlined by the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. It will be 3×3’s second appearance at the Olympics after its successful debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. “Thrilled to return to Singapore for the third edition of the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup, kicking off what promises to be a monumental year. Starting the season in this vibrant city is truly special, and the anticipation is building as the best 3×3 players and teams in Oceania and Asia prepare to engage in fierce competition,” said Alex Sanchez, FIBA 3×3 Director. “Building on the success of the past two editions of FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup and the inaugural 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup, we are excited to bring the basketball action back to our local and regional fans. Organising such international events allow Singapore to showcase our capabilities and elevate the profile of the sport locally and regionally, thereby inspiring more youths to pursue the sport competitively. At the same time, it provides our Team Singapore athletes a valuable opportunity to compete alongside the best teams in the region in front of a home crowd. We are immensely proud of our athletes’ fighting spirit in the last two seasons, and look forward to another exciting basketball season this March,” said Marcus Tan, Chief of Sport Development Group, Sport Singapore. 2023 Asia Cup was most memorable event in the tournament’s history Packed stands of passionate fans made for an incredible sight at the Singapore Sports Hub OCBC Square during the 2023 edition of the Asia Cup. There were an impressive 43 teams in the entire draw – 23 men’s and 20 women’s – in a showcase of the best 3×3 talent in Asia. In what might have been the greatest ever Asia Cup final, Mongolia snapped powerhouse Australia’s 24-game winning streak in the event after superstar Anand Ariunbold hit an all-time buzzer-beater. Their victory marked Mongolia’s second title, with their first in 2017, while Australia will be looking for revenge as they bid for a record-extending fourth title. The only other country that has tasted gold in the men’s is Qatar, who won the first Asia Cup in 2013. In the women’s tournament, Australia had an irresistible run. It was their third title, with China, India, and New Zealand having also triumphed previously in the women’s event. 2024 edition promises more with Olympic Games in the horizon “We are thrilled to host the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup once again here at the Singapore Sports Hub. This event complements our commitment to provide greater access for Singaporeans and visitors to world-class sporting action,” shared Yazed Osman, Group Head, Events & Placemaking, Kallang Alive Sport Management. “We will continue to proactively programme around the tournament with inviting activities for the community at large to drive awareness and grow interest in basketball because all it takes is a spark to kindle passion and ambition, especially in our youths, and we aspire to be that catalyst for sporting dreams.” Make a date with us.
