BAS is looking for Volunteer Part Time 3X3 Coach

We are seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as volunteer 3×3 part-time coaches to work alongside our esteemed Head Coach, Lazar Rasic. This is an exciting opportunity for aspiring coaches to gain valuable experience in the competitive world of International basketball and contribute to the success of our teams in local and international competitions. Key Responsibilities – Assisting the Head Coach, Lazar Rasic, in developing and implementing effective training programs for our 3×3 basketball teams – Providing support to players during practices and games – Contributing to the strategic planning and game analysis process – Representing the Basketball Association of Singapore (BAS) with professionalism and integrity at all times – Willingness to travel with the teams for both local and international competitions Requirements – Passion for basketball and a strong understanding of the 3×3 format – Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – Ability to work effectively in a team environment – Willingness to commit to a 3-4 month probation period – Flexibility to travel with our teams for competitions Benefits – Valuable hands-on experience working alongside our Head Coach, Lazar Rasic – Opportunity to develop coaching skills and knowledge within a supportive environment – Potential for remuneration following the probation period – Exposure to both local and international basketball competitions If you are enthusiastic about coaching and ready to take on this exciting challenge, we want to hear from you. Celebrating the Legacy of Basketball Champion Chong Yew Seng

17th November 2023 Celebrating the Legacy of Basketball Champion Chong Yew Seng In collaboration with the family of the late Star of Singapore Basketball, Mr. Chong Yew Seng, Jurong Secondary School Basketball Alumni Community and the Basketball Association of Singapore (BAS) will host a special exhibition game to celebrate his legacy and raise funds for his family. Chong Yew Seng dedicated over a decade to represent Singapore in the 1980s and made significant contributions to the sport as the national coach. He played a pivotal role in the development of Jurong Secondary School Basketball over generations of students. With the support of the family members, the Jurong Secondary School Basketball Alumni Community has approached BAS for the collaboration of this event to honor the legacy of their beloved coach. Chong Yew Seng’s career was filled with remarkable achievements, shining through his perseverance and unwavering commitment to the game. Learning to play basketball at the age of 12, he quickly climbed the ranks, representing Singapore and leaving an indelible mark on the sport. One of his unforgettable contributions was the stunning 68-63 victory over Iran in the 1981 Asian Basketball Confederation Championship, now known as the FIBA Asia Cup. Despite narrowly missing out on a medal at the 1989 SEA Games, his impact was felt through his skillful playmaking and remarkable on-court performances. After his playing days, he began coaching at Jurong Secondary School, where he continued to inspire and nurture young talents. Tragically, his coaching tenure was cut short after being diagnosed with cancer, emphasizing the challenges he faced with courage and grace. To honor his memory and express gratitude for his contributions to the sport, BAS, in partnership with Chong’s family and Jurong Secondary School Basketball Alumni Community, invites the entire basketball community, both old and new members, to witness the memorable commemorative game. The event aims to not only celebrate Chong’s esteemed legacy but also to raise funds for his family, acknowledging the impact he had on the lives of many both on and off the court. The game will serve as a testament to Chong Yew Seng’s enduring legacy and the profound impact he left on Singapore basketball. It will bring together his former teammates and Jurong Secondary School Basketball Alumni Community for a memorable match, harnessing the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship that Chong exemplified throughout his career. We call upon all basketball fans to come together to honor the memory of this remarkable individual and support his family while celebrating the sport of basketball that he held dear to his heart. BAS Level 2 Basketball Referee Course

The BAS Basketball Level 2 Referee Course is designed for individuals who wish to take up officiating and table duties for our local basketball games. They will be trained in the concepts and general provisions of the basketball game, refereeing knowledge, as well as table official roles that required for our local games. Basketball Association of Singapore (BAS) Welcomes New CEO

1st November 2023 BAS is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Leon Neo Lih Yaw as its new Chief Executive Officer, seconded from SportSG for a two-year term. With a wealth of experience and a proven track record in both public service and the private sector, Leon is poised to lead the organization into a new era of growth. Leon boasts over 20 years of experience working in both the public service and the private sector. He has been with SportSG for more than a decade, collaborating with various National Sports Associations (NSAs) in Singapore to advise them on their multi-year sports plans and funding matters. With this experience, Leon will play a pivotal role in helping BAS strengthen its governance and financial capabilities. Taking on this task is no easy job, but Leon is confident that he will work with stakeholders to elevate the sport to greater heights. Leon remarked, “I am both grateful and honored to be given this opportunity to serve in one of the most popular sports in Singapore. It is with great pleasure that I can seize this chance to work with a team of passionate volunteers and staff. I look forward to meeting more enthusiastic individuals to help build the Basketball ecosystem together.” While Leon used to play basketball in primary school, he later transitioned to competitive volleyball during his secondary and tertiary school years. He believes that his understanding of team sports can help bring the community closer together. Nomination of Athletes Commission (AC)

Basketball Association of Singapore shall establish an Athletes Commission (AC) with the view to providing a process to promote open communication with the athletes. The AC shall comprise of no more than five (5) elected members, who are either past or present national Basketball athletes, including the Chairman who must be a former National Basketball athlete within the last 10 years from the time of election. To be eligible for nomination and appointment to the Athletes’ Commission, candidates applying for appointment as the Chairperson of the AC need to be at least 21 years of age, be a Singaporean, must not have a criminal record and, have never been sanctioned for a doping offence. Applicants (for nomination of AC member only) who are below 18 years of age must have the written consent of their parent or guardian. The Chairman and members of the AC shall be elected by National athletes who have represented Singapore in international Basketball competitions within the past twenty-four (24) months. The term of office of the AC members and their term limits, if any, shall follow that of the Board. The Chairman of the AC shall be appointed as a Board member with voting rights and shall represent the AC in the Board until the expiry of his term as Chairman of the AC.
