1. Purpose & Scope 

The Selection and Development (S&D) committee are responsible for talent identification through regular scouting and conducting National Team trials.  In addition, the S&D committee is responsible for ensuring that National Team trials ensure merit-based, transparent, performance-driven, and aligned with high-performance standards set by the committee. To do so, the S&D committee are also responsible for assembling a qualified panel of assessors for all National Team trials.

2. Selection Philosophy
Right Player + Right Role + Right System Fit
Selection is not solely based on individual statistics but on tactical fit, team balance, defensive integrity, and psychological readiness.

3. Evaluation Categories 

Tactical IQ: spacing, execution, defensive awareness.
Defensive Impact: on-ball defense, help rotations, communication.
Offensive Efficiency: shot selection, assist and space awareness.
Physical Profile: agility, endurance, durability.
Mentality: coachability, leadership, resilience. (i.e. punctuality, listening to instructions and focus during selection)

4. Trial Structure & Testing Framework 

National Team trials are conducted using the following framework and may be adjusted to best suit the age group being trialled. This framework may be updated if periodic evaluations determine a need for adjustments.

Part 1 – Physical Testing

• Height, Weight
  
• Vertical Jump
  
• Yo-Yo/Beep Test 

Part 2 – Skill & Tactical Assessment

• Shooting under fatigue
  
• Decision making (i.e. pick roll, 2 vs 1, 3 vs 2)
  
• Defensive rotation drills 

Test 3 – 5v5 Scrimmage Evaluation

• Transition defense
  
• Role acceptance (playing various roles)
  
• Game execution under pressure

4. Assessor Duties & Responsibilities

• Score independently without consultation.
  
• Avoid conflicts of interest.
  
• Provide written justification for extreme scores.
  
• Submit completed forms immediately after sessions.
  
• Maintain confidentiality of all discussions.

5. Overall procedure for S&D committee 

• Ensure published criteria before trial.
  
• Oversee integrity and fairness.
  
• Review aggregated scores
  
• Recommend final squad for Board ratification.
  
• Document meeting minutes and rationale.
