Becoming an Accredited Basketball Coach in Singapore
The Basketball Association of Singapore conducts coaching courses to support the development of qualified basketball coaches across schools, clubs, and community programmes in Singapore. The pathway for coaching in Singapore is summarized as follows:

Aspiring coaches begin their journey through the SG-Coach Full Integration Programme Level 1 (Basketball), part of the national coaching framework administered by Sport Singapore.
This programme equips participants with the foundational knowledge and practical skills required to coach basketball safely and effectively.
Coaching Course Structure
1. Skills Assessment
All prospective candidates must first pass a Basketball Skills Assessment conducted by BAS. This assessment ensures that candidates possess the necessary technical basketball skills and basic game understanding required to meet the standards expected of a basketball coach.
Only candidates who pass the assessment will be invited to enrol in the coaching course.
2. Attend the Coaching Course
Successful candidates will enrol in the SG-Coach Full Integration Programme Level 1 (Basketball).
The programme includes:
- Basketball Technical Coaching (FIBA Level 1)
- SG-Coach Theory Level 1
- Foundational Sport Science
Participants will learn key coaching competencies such as:
- Teaching fundamental basketball skills
- Planning and conducting training sessions
- Athlete safety and injury prevention
- Communication and leadership
- Developing players at the grassroots level
3. Course Format
The course is conducted over multiple sessions comprising both theory lessons and practical on-court coaching sessions.
Participants will undergo theory and practical assessments as part of the certification requirements.
4. Certification
Upon successful completion of the programme, participants will receive:
SG-Coach Level 1 Certification (Basketball)
Graduates may then apply to join the National Registry of Coaches (NROC), Singapore’s national registry for certified coaches.
A valid First Aid certification from a recognised training provider is required for NROC registration.
