 BAS will be organizing a Golf Fund Raising Event on Wednesday, 21st November 2007 at the Orchid Country Club at 1:00pm. This event is aimed at raising funds for the Association’s operations in the area of Mass Participation and Sports Excellence. This year, the Singapore Sports Council has cut back significantly on the funding for our youth programmes. BAS intends to raise funds in order that we are able to keep on track our multi-year youth programmes. We have a total of 8 age-group national squads and we have no doubt that these children would be the pride and joy of Singapore Basketball in years to come. In addition, this year, BAS is embarking on a Commemorative Coffee Table Book to record the history of Basketball in Singapore since 1925.  The Slingers Are Back !!!!!!!!!!! 
The Slingers take on NBL powerhouse the Melbourne Tigers on the 19th September 2007, setting up a tough battle for the season opener. The Slingers will play 15 home games at the Singapore Indoor Stadium and 15 road games in Australia and New Zealand. The Slingers season will now feature 7 Sunday Home Games which will be 'Family Days' with games starting at 5pm on every Sunday. "The NBA Madness Asia Tour is a yearly NBA event that tours the region and Singapore is the last stop for this Asia-wide event. This year marks the 1st time NBA Madness is coming to Singapore. | Coach Terry Layton, FIBA Expert, in town! Background One of only 4 US coaches who have been called a FIBA EXPERT by the world's governing body of basketball, FIBA and with a 300-94 record behind him, Terry Layton has a wealth of coaching experience under his belt including 300 career victories at college, international and professional competition level. One of his latest achievements comprise of his team representing the USA in the prestigious William Jones's cup in summer 2005 in Taiwan where they finished the tournament with a strong 9-0 record. He also coached former NBA player Shammgod Wells of NJ nets and 2 other NBA draft choices. In spring 2005, he took the Nebraska Cranes to the semi-finals of the USBL (US basketball league). Layton has an immense knowledge of funding and operating a professional basketball team in many diverse situations. He has an impressive resume in coaching university teams. Of the teams he has coached, international teams have won 80% of their games, all teams have won 62% of their games, and college teams have won 55% of their games under his leadership. In the process, he has also coached 5 NBA players, recruited 2 NBA draft choices, recruited 10 players with NBA try outs and many other players presently enjoying stellar careers worldwide. Terry Layton has a Master of Science Degree in Administration of Athletics, Health and Physical Education from Minnesota State University- Mankato, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Science and Physical Education from Point Loma Nazarene University, San Diego, CA. We are pleased to announce that Terry Layton will be coming to Singapore from the 18th - 20th May to conduct a basketball clinic that is open to school teachers, coaches, professional athletes, and to the public and anyone else interested to attend. | BAS will allow 2 foreigners to play in all BAS competitions from Jan 2007. Each team will be allowed to include up to 2 foreigners. A foreign player is either a PR or a holder of one of the following immigration passes: - student pass - work permit - employment pass - dependents pass. No other passes will be accepted. The player(s) must be staying, working or schooling in Singapore for at least 3 months before the first day of the tournament. |
